Everyone knows that, even with dental implants, it takes proper oral hygiene practices to prevent gum disease. There are two types of gum disease.
Gingivitis is a form of gum disease that affects the gums and periodontitis is a gum disease that affects the gums and the bone that surrounds the teeth. There are ways to prevent and control gum disease.
Practice Regular Oral Hygiene
It is a given that we all must practice regular and proper oral hygiene or can end up with gum disease. Brushing alone does not help. You should floss on a daily basis as well.
Getting in the habit of brushing at least two to three times per day and flossing at least twice per day will help you prevent gum disease. You should also use a good mouthwash to keep your mouth clean too. The best type of mouthwash is one with a little amount of alcohol in it.
Education is Important One thing that dentists and patients can agree on and that is education is important in preventing gum disease from occurring or recurring. Dentists can let their patients know everything there is to know about gum disease so they can prevent it from happening in the first place.
Visiting a Dentist Regularly
Visiting a dentist as often as twice or year can prevent gum disease. Maybe, even more, visits will be needed, but that will have to be determined by your dentist and yourself. Regular checkups are essential for getting your teeth cleaned as often as you should, to prevent gum disease from happening at all.
