Children's Dental Emergencies
Laguna View Family Dental understands that kids make life unpredictable. This includes kids with dental emergencies of their own. With kind and patient staff members and the latest technology, we do what we can to eliminate any fear that a child might experience. This also includes helping to educate parents on how to take care of their children’s teeth to give them the best practices into adulthood.
My Child Still has Baby Teeth, Should We Still Come In?
Yes, you should. Baby teeth are just as essential as permanent adult teeth. They play their roles but should be taken care of nonetheless. Whether your child has baby teeth or permanent teeth, they can still experience decay. This decay can cause pain and discomfort which can inhibit speaking, eating, and sleeping properly. These kinds of complications should be taken care of immediately. Emergencies can still happen with baby teeth, and since premature tooth loss has the potential to drastically affect incoming permanent teeth, we like to take care of any issues straight away. We also don’t want kids (or anyone) in discomfort any longer than necessary.
Can I Prevent My Kids’ Dental Emergencies?
Kids require the same type of oral care that their adult counterparts need. While not all problems can be prevented, as some originate from genes or injury, many of them can. Work with your child to create a good learning environment which includes healthy brushing and flossing habits. These habits should be done by a parent until the child can take care of it on their own. Help your kids avoid the sugars and snacks that can cause problems of teeth of all ages. This can prevent painful cavities and unnecessary extractions.
If My Child Has An Emergency, When Should I Come In?
Immediately! We are more than happy to help in any situation that may arise, whether the issue is due to injury or oral health dilemmas. We have the technology and expertise to help in any situation. Be sure to explain when making the appointment the severity of the problem, whether the child has had problems in the past, or if the problem is making other aspects of life difficult, for example, an inability to eat or speak clearly. If it is injury based, such as a cracked tooth, coupled with a concussion, be sure to let us know about possible complications as well. Every little detail can help!
