Impacted Tooth Laguna View Family Dental CA 95758Impacted teeth are also known as painful wisdom teeth. When you are in your late teens and early 20s, the wisdom teeth start to come up through your gums. When they do not grow through the gums the right way, they are known as impacted teeth.

This is when it is time to get them removed completely, and this takes oral surgery. Here is more information on impacted teeth.

Symptoms of Impacted Teeth

There are a few different ways you can tell when your wisdom teeth are impacted when they start to grow through your gums. Some of these symptoms include swelling in the back of the mouth; you will have a hard time opening your jaw, bad breath, a bad taste in your mouth, you have pain when opening your mouth or when biting down or chewing. When any of these problems start to happen, you will need to call us for help.

Diagnosing Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Once you start to notice some of the above symptoms, you should call us right away to make an appointment to get them removed. Once you come to see us, we will examine your teeth and take x-rays if needed so we can see what is going on in your mouth and if any of your wisdom teeth are impacted and will need to be extracted.

Impacted wisdom teeth will cause you pain. Until you get them removed, there are a few things you can do to reduce the pain. For irritation, you can rinse your mouth out with warm salt water. You can also take over-the-counter pain medications to help relieve the pain.
